Jesus Hopped the 'A' Train

The SF Playhouse is pleased to announce that the cast of Stephen Adly Guirgis' Jesus Hopped the 'A' Train will be led by long time Berkeley resident, T.V, film and stage star Carl Lumbly*, (Alias, Cagney & Lacey) and includes, Susi Damilano, Daveed Diggs*, Joe Madero, and Gabriel Marin*.

Bill English will direct the production which will open March 3rd and run through April 21st at the SF Playhouse in San Francisco at 533 Sutter Street and previews will begin February 28th.

From the writer of last seasons’ hit Our Lady of 121st Street, comes the fire-breathing Jesus Hopped the ‘A’ Train, a truth-telling, cage-rattling drama about faith, justice and diminishing options.

An intense, chilling take on life behind bars, Jesus Hopped the 'A' Train strikes a fine balance of “intellectual vigor and sophistication on the one hand and so much anguished passion on the other” (The New York Times).

Angel Cruz isn’t sure why he’s in jail after assaulting Reverend Kim, the cult leader who brainwashed his best friend. “All I did was shoot him in the ass”. As Angel dukes it out verbally in the prison exercise yard with a born-again killer, he slowly learns to accept responsibility for what he has done.
